What’s New on Apple TV in September
Mayday – September 4
Mayday is described as an action comedy film set during the height of the Cold War. It stars Ryan Reynolds as a a hot-shot U.S. Navy Pilot known as Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly who gets stranded behind enemy lines. He’s discovered by ex-KGB agent Nikolai Ustinov (Kenneth Branagh), who just so happens to hold a certain reverence for American culture. The result is an unlikely buddy spy movie that looks to mix action with comedy.
If the trailer isn’t enough of a preview for you, you can also check out IGN’s exclusive clip from the film for additional details.
Last Seen – Premieres September 9
The first new Apple TV series of September is a six-part adaptation of Ryan David Jahn’s novel The Dispatcher. The story follows former detective Ian Ridley (Patrick Brammall), who is still pretty messed up since his daughter Maggie disappeared over a decade ago. Now Ridley is working as a police dispatcher when he receives a distress call from a teenage girl that he thinks could be his long lost daughter.
You’ll likely recognize Brammall as the Australian love interest in this year’s Devil Wear’s Prada 2
Slow Horses Season 6 – Premieres September 16
Slow Horses is entering its sixth season this month, but it’s already been officially renewed for Season 7. If you’re not already deep into this series, there’s never a wrong time to dive right in. With Gary Oldman pretty much extending his terrific performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy into this series. Here’s what we said about the Season 1 premiere back in 2022:
“The premiere of Apple TV’s Slow Horses sets up a sharp spy thriller centering on an excellent performance by Gary Oldman. The timely drama blends dark humor and tense action for a novel ensemble spin on the genre.” – Samantha Nelson
For those who are caught up, the latest Season 6 trailer features the return of Olivia Cooke’s fan favorite character.
Brothers – Premieres September 23
You may have seen the rumors floating around over the years that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are actually secretly related. While the pair has never publicly confirmed this to be true, they are seemingly taking advantage of those rumors with this new series. Brothers is a comedy in which McConaughey and Harrelson play fictional versions of themselves. The series explores a friendship between the two and what happens when the secret that they might actually be brothers is revealed.
The series premiere will include the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday.
