Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is now available to rent or purchase digitally from PVOD platforms like Prime Video. The movie’s arrival online comes almost exactly two months after its initial release in theaters on May 22.
During its time in theaters, The Mandalorian and Grogu grossed just over $344 million on a reported budget of roughly $165 million. While it managed to break even, expectations were particularly high for the first Star Wars project released in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Unfortunately, the move to digital cements its place as the lowest-grossing live-action Star Wars movie to date.

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords are scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they enlist the help of Mandalorian Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.
One of those featurettes suggests that The Mandalorian, as its own series, ended in 2023, casting doubt on what’s next for the franchise. The movie functionally replaced a fourth season of The Mandalorian show, which we were consistently fans of in its Disney+ form. It remains to be seen where the Pedro Pascal and baby Grogu series will go from here.
The majority of the movie’s box office woes began in its second weekend, when it saw an over 60% decline in theater traffic. Unfortunately, the story isn’t looking much better on the critical reception. The movie currently sits at a 60% Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes, narrowly eking out a ‘Certified Fresh’ status. IGN’s own 5/10 review argues the movie doesn’t add anything of note to the franchise, with Tom Jorgenson simply writing, “This is not the way.”
Nonetheless, the film is getting a full DVD release, including a standard Blu-ray and a 4K steelbook. Those are up for preorder and set to hit shelves on August 25.
In the meantime, there’s never any shortage of upcoming Star Wars projects under the Disney banner. The animated series Star Wars Visions is getting its first spin off, ‘The Ninth Jedi,’ on Disney+ next month. We also won’t have to wait long to witness another live-action Star Wars movie in theaters. Star Wars: Starfighter, starring none other than Ryan Gosling, is slated for a theatrical release next May.
When Will The Mandalorian and Grogu Come to Disney+?
Mandalorian and Grogu will eventually join the rest of the Star Wars universe on Disney+. While a Star Wars movie hasn’t actually been released in theaters since Disney+ was launched in late 2019 (some funky timeline math for you), another Disney-owned property, good ol’ Marvel, usually takes about 90 days to add new movies to the service.
Assuming the folks at Lucasfilm follow a similar timeline, Disney+ subscribers can most likely expect The Mandalorian and Grogu to land on streaming by early September.
